This is the era of modular kitchens. But did you ever wonder why are they called so? What does MODULAR actually stand for? If you are thinking it’s just another word for a modern design, you are incorrect. The idea of modular kitchen has emerged from the term ‘module’. Modules are small sections or elements that are assembled together to form a convenient and modern kitchen interiors. These kitchens are fitted with all sorts of modern fittings for better and efficient utilization of the available space. There is enough space provided to ensure a clutter free and seamless space which is highly functional too. Moreover, Island kitchens are sweeping over the industry like nothing else.

The modular kitchens are presently using innovative materials to add to the aesthetics as well as the durability of the space. There is a wide range of materials to choose from. But there are some materials which have gained more popularity in the current time. Here are some material trends that would be in for 2021:

1. Color: The traditional kitchens followed a typical color palette consisting of brown, cream, whites and combination of similar tones. 2021 brings a lot of colors to your kitchens including pastels as well as greys and blacks. Some breathtaking colors would be turquoise, mint green, sage green, navy blue, pastel pink, indigo blue, grey, black and whites. Warm, fresh and dark color palettes would transform the look of your kitchens but make sure you choose the right combination of colors in the palette and try introducing color pops.

2. The Finish: 2021 will be the marble year. Cabinets, countertops and Islands finished in white marble with visible grains will be ruling the market. The wood finishes have stepped back but with more subtle grains and lighter tones. Acrylics and laminates will still be on but in two contrasting tones to give out a eye catchy color palette. Granite and Quartz will still be in as these are the best countertop materials, the latter being a bit expensive. As far as backsplash is concerned, stone claddings and lacquered glass are the best alternatives.

3. Go handle less: Gone are the days of putting kitchen knobs and handles because contemporary design is all about free flow and less clutter. Push to open mechanism, G and J profiles, recessed handles are recommended for both base and overhead cabinets and even the tall units. When choosing the color for your profile handles, choose from rose gold, silver, gold or other available tones after matching it with your cabinet finish texture. The trend is more about simplicity and streamlined design.

4. Lighting: Proper Lighting wasn’t really a concern for kitchen earlier. There is an effort at providing better illumination into your cooking spaces by using various light provisions such as led strip lights and recessed lights under your cabinets. Pendant light fixtures in minimal geometric designs can be put up over your kitchen islands for aesthetic purpose.

5. Concealed Appliances: The modern designs have shifted towards a minimal kitchen keeping everything inside the box. This is the era of built-in ovens, refrigerators, pantries and other such appliances which were separately bought earlier are now being planned at the initial design stages. The idea is to make the whole kitchen feel like one unit and avoid any size discrepancies.

Conclusion: 2021 is all about spilling colors that are subtle as well as calming. Look for appropriate color pallets of the materials and match them with the flooring and ceiling textures for a beautiful breath taking kitchen. Remember, Good food and warm kitchens are what make a house a home.
