FURNITURE TRENDS FOR 2021

The most important aspect of Interior Design is the furniture you put into it. You can design a beautiful space by providing the best wall finishes, flooring, ceiling, décor etc. but the design will nullify if the furniture selection is inappropriate. Like all other aspects, the choice of furniture depends upon the design style chosen, the color palette of the space and the purpose of use. For example, if you opt for a Contemporary design style and you decide on putting a traditional sofa with carved legs and printed fabric, uh oh! It will be a disaster. Like all other industries, the furniture industry also sets certain design trends for a period of time. Here are some furniture trends that you can look up to in 2021:

1. Be Natural: In the present scenario full of deforestation and destruction, there is a severe need to shift towards a sustainable approach. When selecting your furniture, go for the ones which are made out of eco-friendly materials such as wood, bamboo, rattan, seagrasses etc. Look for furniture which are made of recycled products and try to grab locally available materials to save on the transportation thereby not adding up to the air pollution.

2. The form: If you are opting for a Modern, Minimalistic, Scandinavian or Contemporary interior style, the form of your furniture should be based on simple geometry. There is an inclination towards geometric designs such as curved back or edges giving out an elegant piece of furniture. Considering the Traditional, Victorian or similar design styles, opt for their respective furniture designs but try to simplify them to some extent.

3. The look: Talking about the choice of colors, pastel shades, mint, hazelnut, French vanilla, etc. are in the picture. You can go for neutral tones of fabric such as grey, beige and white but don’t forget to embellish the piece with contrasting or patterned cushion covers. Go for tones which are balance out with other design elements such as wall finishes, flooring etc.

4. The feel: This is about the tactile quality of the furniture which sums up to the fabric or the finish chosen. Keep natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, leather, wool etc. as your first preference for beautiful textures but you can choose from a wide variety of synthetic fabrics such as canvas, velvet, polyester, rayon, microfiber etc. if durability is the greater concern. Considering the finishes for your furniture, choose from a wide variety of finishes such as corian top, marble, quartz, bronze, metals, etc.

5. It’s in the details: The details are not the details, they make the design. Look for the smallest of details like the grains of the finish applied, the type of weave of the fabric, proper varnishing etc. to ensure durable and better quality furniture.

6. Relax : It’s comfort first, comfort last and comfort always. While choosing your design for the furniture, don’t go so extra out of the box that the furniture becomes worthless in terms of comfort of the end user. Check for proper anthropometry and choose the ones that best suit to your comfort.
